DAR Animal Facility Tour Policy
Routine access to the animal facilities is restricted for security and biosecurity concerns to animal care staff and research personnel that are included on an IACUC-approved protocol. These concerns impact the health and wellbeing of the animals and protect the housing and research environment.
Individuals other than animal care and approved research staff must have permission of the DAR Director prior to entering a University laboratory animal facility.
- Authorization by the DAR Director, Associate Director or Assistant Directors must be granted prior to conducting an animal facility tour.
- Requests must be submitted in writing via email (daradministrators@ad.uiuc.edu) or letter to the DAR Main Office at least two full business days in advance of proposed tour.
- Requests must be addressed from or copied to the principal investigator or department head outlining the justification for the tour.
- Facility tours are typically considered for the following groups.
- Faculty candidate involved in animal research
- Student candidates (Graduate, Undergraduate or High School) targeted for an animal research study in that facility.
- Representatives from funding agencies prior to approval of a grant application.
- On rare occasions and with outlined justification, the media.
- DAR facility supervisor or designee must escort the tour to ensure proper traffic pattern, personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to photo policy.
