I would like to provide updated information and guidelines regarding recruitment funding provided by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research (OVCR) for initial faculty appointments effective during the 2009 fiscal year. Unfortunately, the loss of proposal matching funding from the IBHE this year has created a serious shortfall in the OVCR budget. As a result, the VCR will no longer be able to provide financial support for the recruitment of new faculty, except in the case of TOPS and faculty excellence hires.
For these hires, funding for recruitments will be limited and subject to review by the OVCR. When stage 1 of a TOP hire is initiated, the OVCR should be copied on the documentation submitted to the Provost.
Any hiring where the Unit Head plans renovations of space assigned to the Division of Animal Resources (DAR) they should contact Lyndon Goodly, DAR Director, as soon as possible after the candidate and/or the potential lab animal requirements have been identified. A budgetary scope and cost estimate must be provided with the recruitment funding request. Actual transfer of OVCR funds will be contingent on submission of appropriate bid documents with a firm cost estimate of the renovations approved by the DAR.
We appreciate your assistance and cooperation.
