Retention
Funds
Retention funds
can also be provided in those cases where extraordinary
expenditures are required to retain a valued faculty member.
Normally these expenditures are directly related to the
faculty member's research program. Examples include laboratory
remodeling, research equipment and RA support.
All requests
for retention funds should be submitted to the office of
the Vice Chancellor for Research through the dean of the
college. The request for retention funds for research-related
expenditures should include:
- Resume of the
faculty member.
- Letter from
the department head and/or dean explaining why it is important
to retain the faculty member.
- General description
of the whole retention package, including any rank or salary
adjustment or special employment arrangements for the spouse.
- Statement identifying
the proposed department, college and campus contribution
to the whole retention package, including the amount requested
from the Vice Chancellor for Research.
Target of
Opportunity (TOP)
TOP is administered
through the Provost and provides salary support for new
minority faculty. Additional research set-up funds are available
on a 2-1 match from the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Requests for these funds are submitted through the Provost.
Campus recruiting funds are not generally available because
the campus contributes to the salary for TOP faculty.
