University Scholars Program

Introduction

In 1985 the University Scholars Program was initiated to honor outstanding faculty and to provide them with a modest amount of funds annually for three years. For the last four years, the program has targeted faculty in mid career who are associate professors or who have held the rank of full professor for no more than four years at the time of their selection. Awards of $10,000 per year may be used at the faculty member's discretion to enhance their scholarly work.

The campus nominated six University Scholars in 2004. The process begins in December with letters to each of the deans requesting that colleges forwarded their nominations to the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research by early March. A selection committee makes recommendations to the Chancellor and the final recommendations are forwarded to the President's Office. Awards are announced in early Fall.
